Where Connection Begins and Confidence Grows

At Think Like a Pony South West, our Youth Development Programme is more than a horsemanship experience - it's a transformative journey that empowers young people to find confidence, a sense of purpose and connection. Rooted in the nationally recognised Think Like a Pony Youth Development Programme, this work has been lauded in peer-reviewed studies by the University of Leeds and Leeds Therapeutic Social Work Team.

Who We Support

Our programme is tailored for young people navigating a wide range of emotional or behavioural challenges, including but not limited to anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, school non-attendance, bereavement or involvement with CAMHS or youth justice services.

By fostering communication, confidence, and calm connection with a pony, we help young people build stronger relationships - with themselves, their families, and their communities.

Building New Beginnings

Children are often referred to the Think Like a Pony Youth Development Programme feeling disconnected, anxious, or overwhelmed. Through interaction with our intuitive and highly trained rehab ponies, they discover how to build relationships grounded in trust and respect. This connection helps them develop self-awareness, emotional intelligence and lasting resilience that reaches far beyond the arena.

Skills That Reach Home, School, and the World

Each session teaches practical, life-changing strategies that children can draw on every day:

  • Emotional Regulation Through Breathing – Grounding tools that help children feel in control during challenging moments.

  • Intentional Communication – Learning to express and respond with clarity and confidence.

  • Body Language Awareness – Recognising how nonverbal cues influence others at home, in class, or in friendships.

  • Planning & Problem-Solving – Building the confidence to approach challenges with clarity and composure.
